A 36 bedded Ward committed to the care of patients with Surgical and Orthopaedic conditions. It has an 8-bedded Surgical Assessment Unit that admits patients straight from the Emergency Department. The large team of experienced nurses are committed to delivering a high standard of evidence-based care, ensuring a supportive, friendly and safe environment for both patients and staff. The team has a happy and open atmosphere that is reflected in the satisfaction of our patients and the commitment of our nurses. We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced individual with proven leadership skills. An individual who is committed to working as part of a tight knit team to develop services and implement new initiatives. The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will be expected to take a lead role in improving patient care and providing support and guidance to junior staff. In addition the Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will be required to assist the Senior Ward Sister in all aspects of ward management and will take responsibility for specific aspects of patient care. This Junior Sister/Charge Nurse position is pay Band 6. The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will be responsible for leading and managing a team of nurses and will assist the Senior Sister in resource management and service development of the clinical area. The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will participate in the provision of care to patients, their families and Carers, in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the area, ensuring that values and beliefs are upheld. Additionally, the Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will demonstrate continuing professional development, reflecting individual needs, the needs of the team, and the needs of the organisation. To work as a Surgical Orthopaedic Junior Sister you will need: To hold current registration with the NMC as a RN1. No ONP or Adaptations nurses need apply. Teaching / Mentorship Qualification, ENB or City & Guilds 730 or equivalent (or evidence of working towards) Desirable: Diploma/Degree in relevant area Postgraduate clinical qualification preferably in specialty area. NVQ assessor The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse should have a thorough and up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice The Surgical and Orthopaedic Junior Sister/Charge Nurse should: -Demonstrates evidence of ability to educate others -Have experience of working as a preceptor/facilitator -Have clinical and management experience at Band 5. -Have extensive experience of taking charge and delegating duties -Have extensive knowledge of surgical, orthopaedic and medical conditions -Demonstrate evidence of well-developed clinical practice The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse must have effective communication skills – able to communicate verbally and in writing to staff, patients and relatives including situations of conflict and distress Also desirable in a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse are: Experience of change management within a clinical area. Clinical skills in cannulation, venepuncture Strong organisational skills Able to act as an advocate to service users Able to build effective working relationships with clinicians and Managers at all levels Able to work under own initiative within boundaries of role Able to work effectively under pressure Demonstrates commitment to working as part of a team and ability to build the ward/unit team The hospital offers a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse with opportunities for career development, and pay and conditions have improved steadily.
