Theatre Scrub Nurses / Operating Department Practitioner ODP – Cardiothoracics Band 6

Our client is an NHS Trust based in Central London, they are known throughout the world for their expertise, standard of care and research success. As a specialist trust they only provide treatment for people with heart and lung disease. This means their doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff are experts in their chosen field, and many move to this hospital from throughout the UK, Europe and beyond, so they can develop their particular skills even further. They carry out some of the most complicated surgery, and offer some of the most sophisticated treatment that is available anywhere in the world and treat patients from all over the UK and around the globe. Job Details They are looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated Nurses and Theatre Practitioners in Surgery to strengthen and provide a valuable contribution to the Teams in Theatres on their Central London site. Participation in the on-call Rota is essential. You must be willing to commit to a 12-month open contract As a member of the surgical theatres team perform the tasks of ‘scrub nurse’ following all checks and procedures as laid down in Theatre Policy. As a member of the surgical theatres team perform the tasks of theatre runner, supporting the instrument nurse and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will work under the supervision of the senior theatre staff and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of nursing care and staff development, as part of the theatre team. To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of student nurses and unqualified staff in the Theatre Department The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care with provisions of preceptorship/mentorship. To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified within the individuals skill set. Qualifications It is essential that you are an RGN or an ODP with extensive experience of Scrub Nursing in cardiothoracic. It would be desirable that you have ENB 176/182/183. They can offer a departmental orientation program along with support to undertake Theatre Courses and opportunities to participate in monthly Academic program. On-going training and education is encouraged. They also offer opportunities to attend an Advanced Life Support Course (Resuscitation Council UK approved) after six months in post, fulfilment of Prep/CPD and access to bursary fund for national and international conferences.
